The Revivalists
home town: New Orleans
genre: rock n roll
songs that jam: Mary Johanna and the Music , Fireflies, Souls too loud , Soulfight
"The septet has been playing nonstop since 2007, crafting a genre-hopping sound that rounds out traditional rock instrumentation with horns and pedal steel guitar and mixes the divergent backgrounds of its individual members with the humid, funky undercurrents of the bands New Orleans home." - [www.therevivalists.com]
I saw these guys at Wakarusa music festival this summer and they threw down like a real rock band. Here is a video of them at Aura music and Arts festival. These guys are all over the festival scene and they put on a killer set! Representing the home land!!
Dumpstaphunk
hometown: New Orleans
genre: funk
songs that jam: Dancin' to the truth , Everybody Want Sum , Water
"Dumpstaphunk stands out among New Orleans' best as one the funkiest bands to ever arise from the Crescent city. Born on the Jazz & Heritage Festival stage...these soldiers of funk ignite a deep, gritty groove that dares listeners not to move. Dueling basslines from Tony Hall and Nick Daniels set off one of the dirtiest rhythm sections on the planet, while Ivan Neville lights up the Hammong B3 keys and cousin Ian Neville's funnk guitar riffs send the groove into overdrive." - [facebook.com/dumpstaphunk]
Dirtfoot
hometown: Shreveport
genre: gyspy punk country grumble boogie
songs that jam: No Good Man , Devoted Mama , Right to Breathe
Imagine Jim Morrison-esque vocals with a side of gritty guitar riffs and some spicy sax action. Dirtfoot puts on a show unlike any other. I have seen this band more times than any other. Their shows are always a party, whether they are playing a huge set at a festival, or tearing it up at Chompdown on Mulberry Mountain's Wakarusa and Harvest fest. chompdown is a festie tradition that Dirfoot created a couple years ago. It is a hippie breakfast celebration where you bring a donation and come eat, dance, and drink bloody marys to get rid of the hangover from last night at the festival.
